Hike for 4 October

Petit Vaux to Lozere   -  16 km.
                                                                                                                                                                                              Start: Petit Vaux (RER C)
Finish: Lozere (RER B)
Terrain: Mostly flat. A slight climb at the end. Cross-country section might be muddy if it has rained a lot recently.

This week's walk will be in honor of Stuart Ellis who says that this was one of his favorite hikes. Some of you may remember doing it with him in December 2012. Our itinerary will take us along
two streams and through some woods and a couple of villages starting at the station Petit Vaux
in the town of Epinal sur Orge and ending at Lozere, one of the stations of Palaiseau in the Chevreuse valley.

From the station at Petit Vaux we will walk along the Yvette River to Gravigny/Balizy from where we will follow thé Rouillon stream through the Bois des Templiers to Ballainvilliers, then along the path of the former Arpajonais railway to Saulx les Chartreux where we will have our picnic lunch
in the Jonchère Park.
After lunch we will head to the Bassin de Saulx where we can walk around and enjoy the wildlife before rejoining the Yvette and heading to the RER B station Lozere on a well-maintained footpath.

As usual, bring plenty of liquids, wear clothing adapted to the weather, and your smile.

GETTING THERE:
To arrive at Petit Vaux there are several options but I have chosen the simplest so that we can all be together in case of a problem with the trains.

RER C, direction Versailles Chantiers, leaving St. Michel Notre Dame at 9:03, Gare d'Austerlitz
à 9:07 and Bibliothèque Francoi Mitterand at 9:10, arriving at Petit Vaux at 9:36.
I will board the train at Bibliothèque Francois Mitterand. I will look for the group in the
last train car.

You could also take RER B to Massy- Palaiseau and change to the RER C  Coming from Versailles Chantiers, but you would arrive at 9:23, 13 minutes before the train coming from Bibliothèque.

This same RER C train Vick leaves Versailles Chantiers at 8:44.

Return trains from Lozere RER B at 15" intervals.

See you on Wednesday!
